Description

This Deep Fried Cauliflower recipe transforms humble cauliflower into a crispy and addictive snack or side dish. With a simple batter and breadcrumb coating, these golden-brown florets are perfect for dipping and sharing.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 head cauliflower, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce (such as Frank’s)
  • 2 cups Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Make Batter: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt. Stir in water and hot sauce until smooth.
  2. Coat Cauliflower: Dip each cauliflower piece in the batter, ensuring it’s fully coated. Allow excess batter to drip off. Roll the battered cauliflower in breadcrumbs until completely covered.
  3. Fry: Heat oil in a deep fryer to 365°F (185°C). Fry cauliflower pieces in batches until golden brown and crispy.
  4. Drain and Serve: Remove cauliflower from the fryer and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. Sprinkle with salt (optional) and serve hot.

Notes

  • No Deep Fryer? Use a deep skillet or heavy-bottomed pot with enough oil to cover the cauliflower. Monitor oil temperature with a kitchen thermometer.
  • Oil Temperature: Maintain oil at 365°F (185°C) for optimal crispiness.
  • Seasoning: Adjust seasoning in the batter or breadcrumbs to your liking. Add garlic powder, paprika, or Parmesan cheese for extra flavor.
  • Dipping Sauces: Serve with your favorite dipping sauces like ranch dressing, marinara sauce, or honey mustard.
  • Make it Spicy: Increase the amount of hot sauce in the batter for a spicier kick.
  • Healthy Alternative: Bake the coated cauliflower at 400°F for 20-25 minutes for a healthier option.
