Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Sausage Mixture:

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary, roughly chopped
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup (omit for Whole30)
  • 1/2 cup fresh blueberries

For Cooking:

  • 1 tbsp olive oil or avocado oil

Instructions

  1. Mix the Base Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, rosemary, thyme, and ground nutmeg. Mix thoroughly to ensure the herbs and spices are evenly incorporated throughout the turkey.
  2. Add Sweetness and Blueberries
Gently stir in the maple syrup (if using) and the fresh blueberries. Be careful during this step to avoid breaking the blueberries. Their whole texture will add bursts of flavor during cooking.
  3. Shape the Patties
Using your hands or a scoop, form the turkey mixture into 8 to 10 evenly sized patties. This will help ensure they cook consistently.
  4. Preheat the Skillet
Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil (or avocado oil) in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Let it warm for about 1-2 minutes to ensure even cooking.
  5. Cook the Sausages
Place the patties in the skillet, working in two batches for better browning. Cook each side for approximately 3-5 minutes, until golden brown and firm. Check that the internal temperature reaches 165°F to ensure the patties are fully cooked.

Notes

  • Make Ahead: You can prepare the sausage mixture the night before and store it in the refrigerator. Shape and cook the patties fresh in the morning.
  • Storage: Cooked patties can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. They also freeze well for up to 2 months.
  • Whole30 Friendly: To make this recipe Whole30 compatible, simply omit the maple syrup.
  • Herb Substitution: Fresh rosemary or thyme can be used instead of dried for a more intense flavor.
  • Serving Suggestions: Pair these sausages with scrambled eggs, fresh salad greens, or a side of roasted sweet potatoes for a complete meal.
