Description

This Cheeseburger Pie is a savory and comforting dish that combines all the classic cheeseburger flavors in pie form. A flaky, golden crust holds a flavorful filling of seasoned ground beef, onions, and garlic, topped with melted cheddar cheese. Perfect for busy weeknights or as a hearty meal, this recipe is customizable with your favorite burger toppings such as shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, or extra ketchup and mustard.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Cheeseburger Pie

  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1 pound 90% lean ground beef
  • 1 sweet onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 cup freshly shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup Bisquick baking mix
  • 2 large eggs

Optional Toppings

  • Ketchup and mustard
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Diced tomatoes

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven
Preheat the oven to 400°F and lightly grease a 9-inch pie pan to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook the Beef Mixture
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef, chopped onion, and minced garlic. Stir and cook until the onion becomes translucent and the beef browns completely. Break up the meat as it cooks to ensure an even texture.
  3. Season the Meat
Stir in the ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, kosher salt, and black pepper. Let the mixture cook for another 1 to 2 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Remove from heat.
  4. Assemble the Pie
Transfer the cooked beef mixture to the prepared pie pan, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
  5. Prepare the Batter
In a medium bowl, whisk together the milk, Bisquick baking mix, and eggs until smooth. Slowly pour this mixture over the meat and cheese, ensuring an even layer.
  6. Bake and Serve
Bake the pie for 25 minutes or until the top is golden brown and set. Let it cool slightly, slice into portions, and serve. Add optional toppings like shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, or extra ketchup and mustard for added flavor.

Notes

  • This recipe is inspired by Betty Crocker and makes a fantastic make-ahead dish. Prepare and assemble the pie the day before, refrigerate covered, and simply bake the next day, adding about 5–10 minutes to the cook time.
  • Ground chicken or turkey is a great substitute for a healthier twist.
  • Switch up the flavor by experimenting with different cheeses! While cheddar is the go-to option, feel free to use mozzarella, pepper jack, or your personal favorite.
