Ingredients
Scale
Cheese Mixture
- 2 (8 oz) blocks Pepper Jack cheese, shredded
- 2-3 jalapeños, diced (adjust based on heat preference)
Breading Station
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1 egg
- 1 cup milk
- 1 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
Other
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Prepare Cheese Mixture: In a bowl, combine the shredded Pepper Jack cheese and diced jalapeños until evenly mixed.
- Form Balls: Shape the cheese mixture into approximately 1 1/2-inch balls, squeezing tightly to compress them well. Place the formed balls on a cookie sheet and freeze for about 30 minutes to firm up.
- Preheat Oil: While the cheese balls chill, preheat your deep fryer or a deep pan with oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare Breading Materials: In one bowl, add the flour. In a second bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. In a third bowl, combine the bread crumbs with cayenne pepper, paprika, and garlic powder to season.
- Bread the Cheese Balls: Once the cheese balls are chilled and firm, roll each ball first in the flour, then dip into the egg and milk mixture, and finally coat thoroughly with the seasoned bread crumbs.
- Fry: Fry the breaded cheese balls in batches in the hot oil for 3-4 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside.
- Drain and Serve: Remove the fried bites with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces for a delicious snack.
Notes
- The combination of melty cheese and spicy jalapeños creates a flavorful, crispy bite-sized appetizer.
- Freezing the cheese balls before frying helps them hold their shape and prevents leaking cheese.
- Adjust jalapeño quantity depending on how spicy you want your bites.
- Use fresh oil heated to the correct temperature to ensure even frying and crispiness.
- These bites are best served immediately but can be kept warm briefly in the oven if needed.
