Description
Enjoy perfectly crispy air fryer smashed potatoes that are golden on the outside and fluffy on the inside. This easy recipe uses simple ingredients like baby gold potatoes, butter, olive oil, and garlic powder to create a flavorful side dish with minimal effort.
Ingredients
Scale
Potatoes
- 1 lb baby gold potatoes (about 8 – 10 small potatoes)
Seasoning & Oil
- 1 Tbsp butter (melted)
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- Salt (to taste)
Garnish
- 2 Tbsp fresh parsley (finely chopped)
Instructions
- Boil the Potatoes: Bring a pot of water to a boil over high heat, adding 2 teaspoons of salt. Wash and dry the potatoes, then add them to the boiling water. Cook for 15 to 25 minutes depending on their size until they are fork-tender and fully cooked.
- Drain and Cool: Drain the cooked potatoes in a colander and allow them to sit for about 5 minutes until they are cool enough to handle safely.
- Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F and spray the basket with non-stick or olive oil spray to prevent sticking.
- Smash the Potatoes: Transfer the potatoes to a large sheet pan. Use the bottom of a cup or a serving fork to gently press down and smash each potato to your preferred thickness; thinner potatoes will crisp better. Season generously with salt and black pepper.
- Add Seasonings and Oil: Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the smashed potatoes, followed by the olive oil. Sprinkle garlic powder, additional black pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon salt over the top for flavor.
- Arrange in Air Fryer: Using a spatula, carefully place the smashed potatoes into the preheated air fryer basket in a single layer without overlapping to ensure crispiness.
- Air Fry Crispy: Cook the potatoes in the air fryer for 15 to 20 minutes until they are golden brown and crisp on the edges. Do not flip during cooking to maintain the crust.
- Serve: Remove from the air fryer and serve hot, garnished with freshly chopped parsley and flaky sea salt if desired.
