Description

This Puppy Chow Recipe, also known as Muddy Buddies, is a quick and easy snack mix featuring crunchy Rice Chex cereal coated in a luscious blend of melted chocolate and creamy peanut butter, then dusted with powdered sugar for a sweet, irresistible treat perfect for sharing.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Peanut Butter Mixture

  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips (or dark chocolate)
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter

Cereal

  • 6 cups Rice Chex Cereal

Coating

  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar (plus extra for desired coating)

Instructions

  1. Melt chocolate and peanut butter: Melt the peanut butter and chocolate chips together either on the stovetop using a double boiler or carefully in the microwave, stirring until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.
  2. First cereal coat: Place 3 cups of Rice Chex cereal in a large bowl and pour half of the melted chocolate/peanut butter mixture over the cereal.
  3. Second cereal coat: Add the remaining 3 cups of Rice Chex cereal to the same bowl, then pour the second half of the chocolate mixture over the cereal.
  4. Mix to coat evenly: Stir gently but thoroughly so all the cereal is coated in the chocolate peanut butter mixture. If there is leftover chocolate at the bottom, add additional cereal ¼ cup at a time, up to 7 cups total, to absorb all the coating.
  5. Cool the coated cereal: Allow the mixture to cool slightly but not harden by placing it in the refrigerator or a cool spot until it reaches room temperature or below.
  6. Add powdered sugar: Add 1 cup of powdered sugar to the cooled cereal mixture and mix gently until fully combined and coating the cereal equally.
  7. Chill for setting: Place the coated cereal in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes to set the coating.
  8. Additional powdered sugar: If desired, add more powdered sugar in ¼ cup increments until the cereal is coated to your preference.
  9. Store: Transfer the Puppy Chow to an airtight container and store at room temperature until ready to serve.
