Ingredients
Scale
Meatloaf
- 1.3 lb ground turkey (93% lean preferred)
- 1/2 small onion, minced
- 1 tsp olive oil
- 1/2 cup seasoned whole wheat or gluten-free breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp marjoram
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 cup ketchup (organic preferred)
Sauce
- 2 tbsp ketchup (organic preferred)
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the meatloaf.
- Prepare Sauce: In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of ketchup and 2 teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce until combined. Set aside.
- Sauté Onion: Heat 1 teaspoon of olive oil in a small skillet over low heat. Add the minced onion and cook until translucent, which should take about 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Mix Meatloaf Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the ground turkey, sautéed onion, seasoned breadcrumbs, egg, 1/4 cup ketchup, kosher salt, and marjoram. Mix gently until all ingredients are well incorporated without overworking the meat.
- Shape Meatloaf: Transfer the mixture to a loaf pan or shape it into a loaf on a baking pan. Evenly spoon the prepared ketchup and Worcestershire sauce mixture on top of the meatloaf.
- Bake: Place the meatloaf in the preheated oven and bake uncovered for 55 to 60 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the meatloaf is cooked through.
- Rest and Serve: Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it sit for 5 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute for a moist and tender result.
Notes
- Turkey meatloaf is a favorite in our house because it’s a healthy and flavorful alternative to traditional beef meatloaf.
- Using 93% lean ground turkey adds moisture and flavor while keeping it healthy.
- Seasoned whole wheat or gluten-free breadcrumbs add texture and help hold the loaf together.
- Letting the meatloaf rest after baking ensures it slices cleanly and retains its juices.
