Description

This healthy Turkey Meatloaf recipe is a flavorful and easy-to-make dish featuring lean ground turkey combined with savory ingredients and baked to perfection. It’s a delicious twist on classic meatloaf, perfect for a wholesome family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Meatloaf

  • 1.3 lb ground turkey (93% lean preferred)
  • 1/2 small onion, minced
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1/2 cup seasoned whole wheat or gluten-free breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp marjoram
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 cup ketchup (organic preferred)

Sauce

  • 2 tbsp ketchup (organic preferred)
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the meatloaf.
  2. Prepare Sauce: In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of ketchup and 2 teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce until combined. Set aside.
  3. Sauté Onion: Heat 1 teaspoon of olive oil in a small skillet over low heat. Add the minced onion and cook until translucent, which should take about 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. Mix Meatloaf Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the ground turkey, sautéed onion, seasoned breadcrumbs, egg, 1/4 cup ketchup, kosher salt, and marjoram. Mix gently until all ingredients are well incorporated without overworking the meat.
  5. Shape Meatloaf: Transfer the mixture to a loaf pan or shape it into a loaf on a baking pan. Evenly spoon the prepared ketchup and Worcestershire sauce mixture on top of the meatloaf.
  6. Bake: Place the meatloaf in the preheated oven and bake uncovered for 55 to 60 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the meatloaf is cooked through.
  7. Rest and Serve: Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it sit for 5 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute for a moist and tender result.

Notes

  • Turkey meatloaf is a favorite in our house because it’s a healthy and flavorful alternative to traditional beef meatloaf.
  • Using 93% lean ground turkey adds moisture and flavor while keeping it healthy.
  • Seasoned whole wheat or gluten-free breadcrumbs add texture and help hold the loaf together.
  • Letting the meatloaf rest after baking ensures it slices cleanly and retains its juices.
