Description

Perfectly fluffy, nutty brown rice made effortlessly in your Instant Pot. This foolproof method delivers consistent results every time with minimal effort and maximum nutrition.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup (180 g) long grain brown rice
  • 1 1/4 cups (300 ml) water
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt, optional

Instructions

  1. Rinse the Rice: Add rice to a fine meshed strainer. Rinse and wash under cool running water until the liquid runs clear. Scrub the rice between your fingers several times, about 1 minute. Shake and lightly press to drain excess water.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a 6-quart Instant Pot add rice, water, and salt. Make sure that the release valve is in the “Sealing” position.
  3. Secure the Lid: Place the lid on the Instant Pot, turn and lock. Ensure the pressure release valve is set to “Sealing.”
  4. Program the Instant Pot: Press “Manual” button on the Instant Pot on high pressure, and then set the timer to 22 minutes using the “+” or “-” buttons. It will take about 7 to 10 minutes for the pot to heat and build up pressure. You will see some steam release from the lid, and then the time will start on the display.
  5. Complete Cooking Cycle: Once cooking time is complete, press the “Keep Warm/Cancel” button.
  6. Natural Release: Allow the pressure to naturally release for 15 minutes. This allows the rice to finish cooking and absorb any remaining liquid.
  7. Vent Remaining Pressure: Carefully twist the steam release handle on the lid to the “Venting” position to release any remaining pressure.
  8. Open the Pot: Remove the lid, opening the top away from you as steam will be released from the pot.
  9. Fluff the Rice: Gently fluff the rice with a fork to separate the grains without crushing them.
  10. Final Rest: If desired, cover and allow to sit and steam for an additional 5 to 10 minutes to further soften the grains.
  11. Serve: Serve the rice hot, or cover and keep warm in the Instant Pot until ready to eat.
