Description

Italian Stromboli is a delicious, rolled pizza filled with layers of ham, salami, pepperoni, and mozzarella cheese seasoned with Italian herbs. Baked until golden and crispy, it makes a perfect party appetizer or a satisfying meal served with warm pizza sauce for dipping.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Crust and Sauce

  • 1 Refrigerated Pizza Crust (about 13 oz)
  • 1/4 cup Pizza Sauce for brushing
  • Additional Pizza Sauce for dipping (quantity as desired)

Meats

  • 1/4 lb Thinly Sliced Deli Ham
  • 1/4 lb Sliced Deli Salami
  • 1/4 lb Sliced Deli Pepperoni

Cheese and Seasonings

  • 3 cups Grated Mozzarella Cheese
  • 1 tsp Italian Seasoning
  • 2 tbsp Butter, melted
  • Garlic Powder, to taste
  • Dried Parsley, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure it’s hot enough to crisp and cook the stromboli evenly.
  2. Prepare the Crust: Roll out the refrigerated pizza crust onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the surface with 1/4 cup of pizza sauce evenly to add moisture and flavor.
  3. Add Fillings: Layer the ham evenly over the sauce, then sprinkle one cup of grated mozzarella cheese on top. Follow with a layer of salami and another layer of cheese, then the pepperoni topped with remaining cheese. Sprinkle the entire surface with 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning to enhance the flavors.
  4. Roll and Seal: Carefully roll up the crust into a tight log, starting from one side, and pinch all the seams closed to prevent filling leakage during baking.
  5. Butter and Season the Top: Brush the melted butter generously over the top of the rolled stromboli. Sprinkle garlic powder and dried parsley evenly for added aroma and flavor.
  6. Vent the Dough: Cut several slits on top of the roll to allow steam to escape while baking, ensuring a crisp crust and properly cooked filling.
  7. Bake: Place the stromboli in the preheated oven and bake for about 20 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and crispy.
  8. Rest: Remove from the oven and let it sit for 5 minutes so the cheese inside can set, making it easier to slice.
  9. Slice and Serve: Cut the stromboli into slices and serve warm with additional warmed pizza sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • This recipe is very customizable. Feel free to use any toppings that you like such as different meats, vegetables, or cheeses.
  • Make sure to seal the seams tightly to prevent the filling from leaking during baking.
  • Allowing the stromboli to rest after baking improves slicing and prevents cheese from oozing out.
  • You can add a sprinkle of parmesan cheese on top before baking for extra flavor.
