Description

This classic Peppermint Bark recipe features rich semisweet and creamy white chocolate layers topped with crushed candy canes for a festive holiday treat. Easy to prepare and perfect for parties, gift giving, or a sweet winter indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale

Dark Chocolate Layer

  • 12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips (or chopped semisweet chocolate)

White Chocolate Layer

  • 16 ounces white chocolate chips (or chopped white chocolate)
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract

Topping

  • 3/4 cup crushed candy canes

Instructions

  1. Melt Semisweet Chocolate: Place the semisweet chocolate chips in a medium bowl and microwave in 30-second increments until fully melted, stirring until smooth and glossy.
  2. Spread Semisweet Layer: Spread the melted semisweet chocolate into a roughly 9”x13” rectangle on parchment paper. Refrigerate for about 10 minutes until the edges are just set but the center remains slightly soft, ensuring good adhesion for the next layer.
  3. Melt White Chocolate: In a separate bowl, microwave the white chocolate chips in 30-second intervals until melted. Stir in the peppermint extract until fully combined and smooth.
  4. Add White Chocolate Layer: Evenly spread the white chocolate mixture over the semisweet chocolate layer. Immediately sprinkle the crushed candy canes over the top so they stick to the still-wet white chocolate.
  5. Set and Cut: Refrigerate the layered bark for about 20 minutes or until completely firm. Remove from the fridge and allow it to sit at room temperature for 20 minutes before cutting into pieces using a straight-edged knife. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • This peppermint bark combines two layers of chocolate with a refreshing peppermint twist, making it a perfect holiday treat.
  • Do not let the first (semisweet) chocolate layer harden completely before adding the white chocolate layer to ensure they bond well.
  • Use fresh crushed candy canes for the best texture and flavour.
  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge to maintain freshness.
