Description

This comforting Midwestern classic, Ohio Shredded Chicken Sandwiches, is a hearty and easy meal perfect for gatherings or casual family dinners. With minimal ingredients and a slow cooker doing all the hard work, you’ll end up with shredded chicken combined with savory stuffing for a rich and satisfying sandwich filling. Serve it on hamburger buns for a no-fuss dish sure to please everyone.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • Main Ingredients:
  • 3 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 cans condensed cream of chicken soup (10.75 ounces each)
  • 1 box chicken-flavored Stove Top Stuffing (6 ounces)
  • Chicken broth (only if needed, for thinning the mixture)

Instructions

  1. Prepare and Cook the Chicken
Place the chicken breasts in the slow cooker and pour the condensed cream of chicken soup over them. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 3-4 hours, or until the chicken is tender and easy to shred.
  2. Shred the Chicken and Combine
Shred the chicken directly in the slow cooker using two forks. Add the stuffing mix to the slow cooker.
  3. Moisten and Continue Cooking
Mix the ingredients well to ensure the stuffing mix is evenly distributed. Cover the slow cooker again and cook on high for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the stuffing mix is moistened. If the consistency appears too thick, gradually add a bit of chicken broth until the desired texture is achieved.
  4. Serve
Portion the shredded chicken and stuffing mixture onto hamburger buns and serve warm. Enjoy this classic comfort food with your favorite sides!

Notes

  • This recipe is traditionally served on hamburger buns, but you can also enjoy it as a topping for baked potatoes or a filling for a casserole.
  • Adjust the consistency to your preference by adding more chicken broth if needed.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat on the stove or in the microwave until warmed through.
  • Feel free to add seasoning such as garlic powder, onion powder, or black pepper for extra flavor.
