Description

This Philly Cheesesteak Meatloaf combines the best of two comfort foods into one hearty meal. Juicy, flavorful ground beef is mixed with sautéed onions and peppers, layered with gooey provolone cheese, and baked to perfection for a cheesy, savory twist on the classic meatloaf.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Meatloaf Base

  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • Dash of salt and pepper

Vegetables

  • 1 yellow onion, chopped large
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped small
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Cheese & Garnish

  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare Oven – Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) to ensure it is hot and ready for baking the meatloaf.
  2. Sauté Vegetables – Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and green bell pepper. Sauté until soft and translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Mix Meatloaf – In a large bowl, combine the sautéed onion and pepper mixture with ground beef, Panko breadcrumbs, eggs, minced garlic, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix together using your hands just until evenly incorporated.
  4. Layer Meatloaf and Cheese – Grease a loaf pan with cooking spray or butter. Add half of the meat mixture into the pan and gently press it down. Add 4 slices of provolone cheese in a single layer on top of the meat mixture. Spread the remaining meat mixture over the cheese to cover it completely.
  5. Bake – Place the meatloaf in the preheated oven. Bake for about 30 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld while the meat cooks through.
  6. Add Cheese & Garnish – Remove the meatloaf from the oven. Place the remaining 2 slices of provolone cheese over the top, then sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Cool & Serve – Allow the meatloaf to cool on a wire rack at room temperature for a few minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy the cheesy, savory goodness!

Notes

  • For extra flavor, substitute half of the ground beef with ground pork or ground turkey.
  • If you prefer, add sautéed mushrooms for additional depth of flavor.
  • Letting the meatloaf rest after baking helps it slice more easily.
  • Leftovers make excellent sandwiches the next day.
