Description

Resurrection Rolls are a fascinating and interactive treat often associated with Easter traditions. Soft crescent roll dough wraps around a marshmallow coated in cinnamon sugar, which “disappears” during baking, creating a hollow center. These simple yet delightful rolls are perfect for a quick dessert or an educational cooking activity that both kids and adults will enjoy!

Ingredients

Units Scale

Dough & Marshmallows

  • 1 (8 oz.) package refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 8 large marshmallows

Cinnamon Sugar Coating

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (plus extra for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven:
Preheat your oven to 375º F and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. This will prevent the rolls from sticking during baking.
  2. Prepare the cinnamon sugar mixture:
In a small bowl, mix together the sugar and cinnamon until evenly combined. This will form the sweet, spiced coating for the marshmallows.
  3. Dip the marshmallows:
Take one marshmallow and dip it fully into the melted butter. Shake off any excess butter, then roll the marshmallow in the cinnamon sugar mixture until thoroughly coated.
  4. Prepare the dough:
Gently unroll the crescent roll dough onto a flat surface. Take one coated marshmallow and place it on the non-pointy end of a dough triangle. Roll the dough tightly around the marshmallow, ensuring it is completely sealed and there are no gaps or seams (to prevent leaks during baking).
  5. Repeat the process:
Continue the process for the remaining marshmallows and crescent roll triangles. Arrange the wrapped marshmallows on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Optional glaze:
For an extra golden finish, lightly brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar.
  7. Bake the rolls:
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 9-11 minutes, or until the crescent rolls are puffed and golden brown.
  8. Serve and enjoy:
Remove the rolls from the oven and allow them to cool slightly before serving. The marshmallow will have melted away, leaving behind a sweet, hollow center.

Notes

  • Double-check that the seams of the crescent dough are sealed properly to prevent the marshmallow from leaking out during baking.
  • For an extra twist, you can add a pinch of nutmeg or cardamom to the cinnamon sugar mixture for enhanced flavor.
  • Resurrection Rolls are best enjoyed warm, as the center becomes sticky and sweet.
