Description

Smash Burger Tacos combine the juicy, crispy-world of smash burgers with the handheld convenience of tacos. Featuring seasoned ground beef smashed on a hot skillet, topped with melty cheese, fresh vegetables, and a flavorful burger sauce, these tacos are perfect for a fun, savory meal that blends two favorite comfort foods into one irresistible dish.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Burger Sauce / Big Mac Sauce:

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 4 tablespoons pickle relish
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Tacos:

  • 4 Flour tortillas, 6 inches in size
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • Salt and pepper, both to taste
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil (vegetable, canola, or avocado)
  • 4 slices American Cheese (or cheese of your choice)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • Dill pickle chips, to taste
  • Shredded iceberg lettuce, for topping

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce: In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, pickle relish, Dijon mustard, sugar, white vinegar, paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder. Mix well and refrigerate for at least 30-60 minutes to meld flavors.
  2. Portion the beef: Divide the ground beef into 4 equal parts to form the basis of each taco.
  3. Assemble the tortillas: Lay a tortilla on your work surface. Evenly spread one portion of ground beef over the entire surface, pressing slightly to form a thin layer.
  4. Season the beef: Sprinkle salt and pepper over the seasoned side of the beef layer.
  5. Heat the skillet: Place a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat and lightly coat with oil.
  6. Cook the smash burger: Gently place the tortilla with the beef side down onto the hot skillet. Use a spatula to apply slight pressure for a few seconds, encouraging the beef to form a crispy, thin patty. Cook for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Flip and add cheese: Carefully flip the patty and immediately top it with a slice of cheese. Continue cooking for another 1-3 minutes until the cheese melts and the tortilla is crispy to your preference.
  8. Repeat: Remove the cooked taco from the skillet. Repeat the process for remaining tacos.
  9. Assemble tacos: Spread a generous layer of burger sauce onto each taco, then top with shredded lettuce, diced onions, dill pickle chips, and additional sauce if desired.
  10. Serve: Enjoy your smash burger tacos immediately while crispy and hot.

Notes

  • The burger sauce can be made ahead of time; at least 30-60 minutes improves flavor as ingredients meld.
  • Use fajita-sized tortillas (6 inches) for standard tacos, or street taco-sized tortillas for smaller tacos—expect around 8 tacos with smaller size.
  • Adjust toppings to taste, adding extra pickles, onions, or lettuce as preferred.
  • For easier cooking, a griddle works best to cook all at once; in a skillet, cook 1-2 tacos at a time.
  • Leftover sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, covered.
  • Feel free to replace American cheese with your favorite melting cheese, like cheddar or pepper jack.
