Description

These Sweet and Salty Churro Bites are a simple yet satisfying snack that combines the classic flavors of churros with a touch of salt. Made with oyster crackers coated in a buttery cinnamon sugar mixture, they’re perfect for parties, game day, or a quick treat.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 5 cups oyster crackers
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prep: Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
  2. Spread Crackers: Arrange oyster crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. Make Cinnamon Sugar Mixture: In a small bowl, combine granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.
  4. Make Caramel: In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, and cook for 2 minutes.
  5. Coat Crackers: Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Pour caramel mixture over crackers and stir until evenly coated.
  6. Bake: Bake for 10 minutes, or until the caramel is bubbly.
  7. Add Cinnamon Sugar: Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  8. Cool and Serve: Let crackers cool completely before breaking into bite-sized pieces and serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh oyster crackers for the best results.
  • For a richer flavor, use dark brown sugar instead of light brown sugar.
  • If the caramel is too thick, add a tablespoon or two of water to thin it out.
  • Be careful not to overbake the crackers, or they will become too hard.
  • Store churro bites in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
